Ratna Patak and Rajat Kapoor are classically trained actors.
He is an actor that has truly refined with age. His sheer presence fills the screen, his dialogue delivery is witty and on point, the cheeky glisten in his eyes makes his character so real. In all fairness, the performances by each of the actors simply cannot be faulted. Given the ensemble casting, no character is given more of a spotlight than the other. But beneath this simple exterior is a thick web of secrets, tension and lies between the parents (Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Patak) and their sons (Fawad Khan and Sidharth Malhotra). The basic plot is a simple one – an elderly grandfather (Rishi Kapoor) wishes to fulfil his final wish of a family photo. Making this particular family a Punjabi one adds to the drama and comedy because of the dialogues and the fervent emotions commonly associated with this community. It’s the cliché “can’t live with them, can’t live without them” which I’m sure many families can relate to.
In a nutshell, it’s about a Punjabi family that is bound by love and torn by differences. With an ensemble cast, low budget and simple production it’s not your standard lavish Karan Johar production.
Raja reportedly did not answer the doctor's call for 15 days and later when he was contacted through a different number he promised to return but never showed up.On first glance, Kapoor and Sons (“ since 1921”– let’s not forget that!) is not exactly the most appealing film. The doctor treating Ms Kapoor told mid-day that they tried tracing Raja by sending an ambulance to his residence but the neighbours informed them that Raja packed his belongings and left earlier that day. Paying the bills was not a big thing, really. Then, he got me admitted and fled."Īshoke Pandit told Indian Express: "After reaching the hospital I cleared the bills, and I wanted to tell the hospital guys that she will be taken care of, so there are no insecurities from the hospital's side and they would continue treating her. He deliberately kept me hungry and I fell ill. I was not ready to go to an old-age home, that's why, he planned all this. He would give me food once in four days, and sometimes, even lock me up for several days. She told mid-day: "He used to beat me up as I did not approve of his philandering ways. Last week mid-day reported that Geeta Kapoor was allegedly abandoned by her son Raja and the 58-year actress also accused Raja of torturing and starving her. I didn't know Geeta Kapoor is the Geeta Kapoor from Pakeezah."
He said: "I came to know that an old lady named Geeta Kapoor has been abandoned in a Mumbai hospital by her children only after reading about it in the newspapers. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) member Ashoke Pandit paid for Ms Kapoor's hospital bills and treatment after her son Raja apparently left her at Goregaon's SRV hospital under the pretext of withdrawing cash from a nearby ATM, reported Indian Express.
